Beltane feelings

Those of us that could gathered in Pollok Park on Sunday 5 May for our Beltane celebration.  It was a joyous gathering although I think most of agreed that it didn't quite feel like Beltane yet, close but not quite.

For many of us the most significant sign that the year has really turned and Beltane in here is the blooming of the hawthorn blossom and none of us had seen any in our home areas.  Leaves were out now and there were plenty of flower buds but none even on the cusp of opening that I saw.  It's been a long winter and a late spring so our celebration was more about encouraging summer to fully arrive.  We had a light hearted ritual infused with a feeling of caring and respect for one another as well as for those who were not able to join us.

Several of those that would normally be there with us were unable to attend for various health reasons, some had other commitments.  Those who were absent were much missed and toasts were raised in their honour.

The year turns and out next gathering will be for the Summer Solstice.  The date planned for that is 23rd June.
